Our Landscape Architecture program has a long-standing history. It was established in 2000 as one of the earliest landscape architecture programs in China, with a background in agriculture. In 2004, we began admitting graduate students in the Landscape Architecture program under the second-level discipline of Urban Planning and Design. In 2006, we added a Landscape Architecture Design major. In 2011, we were authorized to grant doctoral degrees in Landscape Architecture (first-level discipline). Over the past decade, our program has become a leading specialty discipline in Liaoning Province, and an important base for landscape architecture research and talent development. By integrating multiple disciplines, we have developed distinctive research directions in landscape architecture planning and design, history and theory, and cold region microclimate landscapes. We have established stable research directions in Northeastern Landscape Planning and Ecological Design, Coldland Landscape Plants and Landscape Engineering Technology, Northern Landscape History Theory and Heritage Protection, and Open Space Public Art and Post-Industrial Landscape Renewal. Our program has a complete structure, strong platform, and is well-connected internationally.

In recent years, our Landscape Architecture program has achieved remarkable results in continuous practical development：It has made significant contributions to the ten-year planning, design, and construction of the Liaodong Bay area, an important node in the Liaoning coastal economic belt and the nearest seaport to the Shenyang National Economic Zone. The "Research on Soft Connection Modes between New Industrial Zones and Towns in the New Type of Urbanization" won the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of Architectural Society of China and was nominated for the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Special research projects such as "Goguryeo, Bohai Region, Shengjing Gardens" have received support from various levels of funding programs including the national and Ministry of Education. Our program also won accolades for the Panda Pavilion at the Shenyang Forest Zoo, which received the global green building category nomination award at the Idea-Tops Awards and the first prize of the Architectural Creation Award of the Liaoning Provincial Architectural Society.

We have established a long-term cooperation relationship with the University of Sheffield in the UK and have appointed Professor James as a specially appointed professor.In September 2017, the Landscape Architecture program participated in hosting the "Traditional and Modern" workshop on landscape culture for students from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Representatives from seven universities, including National Taiwan University, Fu Jen Catholic University, Tunghai University, and Chaoyang University of Science and Technology, highly praised the department and established a long-term cooperative relationship for undergraduate and graduate credit exchange, academic exchange, and regular workshops. In the fourth round of national undergraduate assessment, the Landscape Architecture program ranked tied for 17th place in the country, a two-spot improvement, with a percentile of 30.36%, placing it in the top 35% nationwide and first in Liaoning Province. In January 2018, it officially entered the list of double first-Class construction universities in Liaoning Province.
